International Faculty 2018-2019

Our International Faculty for the Certification Program in Emergency Medicine for this year:

Dr. Sean Kivlehan – MD, MPH

Dr Kivlehan works as Director for the International Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He is also an Instructor at Harvard Medical School and Affiliate Faculty for the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative. He also works as a consultant for the World Health Organization’s Emergency, Trauma, and Acute Care Programme.

Dr. Shajeel Khan – MBBS, FRCEM

Dr Khan works as a Consultant Emergency Physician in London North West University Hospital in London, UK. He is also a Member and Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, UK. He has training and work experience in Pakistan, Qatar, and the UK, and serves as a core member of several educational committees and groups.

Dr. Anna Yaffee – MD, MPH

Dr Yaffee is an Emergency medicine physician with an interest in emergency response and health disparities in resource limited settings. She is a faculty member at Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, and has previously served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Her prior experience includes working as Emergency medicine response team lead for Serious Communicable Diseases Unit at Emory University Hospital.

Dr. Ghazanfar Naqvi – MBBS

Dr Naqvi is Deputy Chairman and Director of Quality Management in the Department of Emergency Medicine at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Saudi Arabia. He has completed a Fellowship in Hyperbaric and Undersea Medicine and serves as the ACEP Deputy International Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Farida Khawaja – MBBS, FACEM, DTM&H

Dr Khawaja is a Fellow at the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine. She is an Emergency Specialist, Alice Springs Hospital, Australia and is closely linked with health care and social services in the Sialkot and Gujrat districts. She has previously worked in Uganda and earthquake-affected areas of Pakistan. She is currently working for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in Mosul, Iraq.

Dr. Samreen Vora – MD, MHAM, MHPE(c)

Dr Vora is the Medical Director of Simulation at Children’s Minnesota. She has worked as an Emergency Physician, Loyola University Medical Center, and has a Fellowship in Simulation and Medical Education incorporating a Masters in Health Professions Education at University of Illinois, Chicago. She has presented widely on topics ranging from ACGME Resident Assessment to the Flipped Classroom Model.

Dr. Barbra Villona – MD, MPH&TM, DTM&H, FACEP

Dr Villona is an International Emergency Physician, and has worked as Emergency Medical Officer for International SOS in the Republic of Nauru. She is also Communications Chair for the ACEP Section on International EM, as well as ACEP Ambassador to Qatar. Dr Villona has served as Visiting faculty at the University Hospital in Mirebalais, Haiti and on the rosters for Medical Teams International, International Medical Corps, and Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

Dr. Paul Charlton – MD, MA

Dr Charlton is an Emergency Physician who works clinically with the Navajo Nation (a Native American community) in the US state of New Mexico. He has an academic specialization in conflict management in health care, and has faculty affiliations with the University of Washington and Creighton University. He has also visited frequently with his wife for prior work in northern Pakistan and for mountaineering expeditions in the Karakorams.

Dr. Mulinda Nyirenda – MBBS, MMed, FCP (SA and ECSA)

Dr Nyirenda is a Chief Specialist in Emergency and Internal Medicine at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Blantyre, Malawi. She has served on the National Technical Working Group for Non-communicable Diseases and the Pre-hospital Care Planning Committee for the Ministry of Health of Malawi. She has also worked as a Clinical Lecturer in the College of Medicine, coordinating the Emergency Medicine Training Programs. Moreover, she has been involved in more than 30 published manuscripts and has presented all over the world.
